The first interval on a new Harley-Davidson motorcycles is at 1,000 miles. This maintenance is critical to keep your Harley-Davidson® motorcycle operating at peak performance. Here’s a breakdown of what is involved with your first service at Boswell’s Harley-Davidson.



 

Mandatory Services

 

  • Inspect: Electrical equipment and switches
  • Check: Front tire pressure and tread
  • Check: Front wheel spoke tightness (if equipped)
  • Inspect: Front brake fluid level
  • Lubricate: Clutch cable
  • Adjust: Clutch cable
  • Check: Front brake fluid moisture content
  • Tighten: Hand control switch housing screw torque
  • Tighten: Clutch lever handlebar clam screw torque
  • Tighten: Front brake handlebar clamp screw torque
  • Replace Engine oil and filter
  • Check: Engine coolant
  • Clean: Radiators or oil cooler
  • Replace: Primary chaincase lubricant
  • Replace: Transmission lubricant
  • Inspect: Oil and brake lines
  • Inspect: Fuel lines and fittings
  • Inspect: Rear brake fluid level
  • Check: DOT4 rear brake fluid moisture content
  • Inspect: Brake pads and discs
  • Tighten: Front axle nut torque
  • Lubricate: Jiffy stand
  • Lubricate: Brake and clutch controls
  • Check: Rear wheel spoke tightness (if equipped)
  • Check: Rear tire pressure and tread
  • Inspect: Drive belt and sprockets
  • Adjust: Drive belt
  • Tighten: Rear axle nut torque
  • Inspect: Exhaust system, fasteners and shields
  • Lubricate: Fuel door hinge and latch
  • Road Test: Component and system functions

 

Services As Required

 

  • Flush brake systems and replace DOT4 hydraulic brake fluid every two years or sooner if moisture content is 3 percent or greater.
  • Inspect rear sprocket isolators for wear at each rear tire change
  • Check battery terminal torque and clean connections annually. Lubricate terminals with electrical contact lubricant.
  • Replace spark plugs every two years or every 30,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • Replace fuel filter element every 100,000 miles.
