The 2021 Forty-Eight®
The iconic Harley-Davidson Sportster was first produced in 1957 and has been a part of the Motor Company lineup since. That’s a long time!
Some might tell you that its longevity is due to price point or that its smaller size is new-rider friendly. And while those things are true, I would personally attribute the bikes success to two other things. The Harley-Davidson Sportster is fun to ride and... is just plain old cool! Always has been and always will be.
One of my favorite iterations of the Sportster is the Forty-Eight model. It was first introduced in 2010 and from the start has incorporated a great retro vibe. A “slammed” look with a ‘1948” style peanut tank, forward controls, a fat front tire, chopped front fender, slammed speedo, under mount mirrors, low single seat, and low suspension... It all adds up to an old school bobber look and feel that... well... is both fun to ride and way cool!
For 2021, three great colors are being offered. Billiard Teal, Midnight Crimson, and Vivid Black (shown here). The iconic 1200cc air-cooled Evolution® engine that is renowned for its massive low-end torque and soul satisfying sound provides the power and the tall, fat MT90 front tire helps provide a smooth ride and solid handling.
Other features include a 49mm front fork accentuated by a massive triple tree and fork brace and an Emulsion rear shock with screw pre-load adjuster to fit your riding style. Seat height is a short 26.2 inches and weight (in running order) is a mere 556 pounds. Engine Torque is 73 ft-lb at 3500 and you still get 48 miles per gallon! (Estimated)
But I could go on about specs all day long and it still wouldn’t tell you how fun this bike is. You’ll have to experience that for yourself. But I can tell you... if old-school cool in a sporty little fun to ride package is your thing, you need to check out the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight®.
