Time Flies... Has It Been 2 Years?

I recently had the privilege of shooting a quick video with Harley-Davidson Certified Technician Harry Williams. Harry is one-of-a-kind and has been with Boswell’s Harley-Davidson on Fesslers for over 26 years! Now, that’s some dedication... and there’s not a lot Harry hasn’t seen or worked on during that time. The man is a wealth of Harley-Davidson information!

On this day, we chatted about DOT4 brake fluid and the importance of periodic flushing. I’ll let you watch the video below to get the scoop straight from the source but here are a few key points you’ll want to make sure you note:

  • Harley-Davidson recommends DOT4 brake fluid flushing every 2 years or when water content in the fluid exceed 3%
  • DOT4 is also used in all models that have a hydraulic actuated clutch and Harley-Davidson has the same recommendation of flushing... every 2 years or when water content in the fluid exceed 3%
  • High water content can damage the solenoid valve which can cost you several hundred dollars to replace.
  • Or worse...high water content for an extended period of time can cause corrosion in the aluminum master cylinder which can result in brake failure or lockup while riding.

If there’s one thing you don’t want to cut corners on, it’s your braking system. Time flies... has it been 2 years since you’ve had your brakes (or clutch) serviced? Don’t wait any longer!
